About the role

Seeking NIH scientists, physicians, and physician-scientists at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, tenured, in the tenure stream and outside the tenure stream. Established investigators with a proven track record in extramural NIH funding and mentoring of junior investigators are encouraged to apply. Attractive resources are available to establish a vibrant research program.

PACCSM supports active basic and clinical research programs in asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, sleep disorders, ILD, and ARDS/ALI, and fellowship training at major teaching hospitals: UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, the Oakland VA Medical Center, and UPMC Shadyside Hospital.

Requirements

  • Board-certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine.
  • Eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania.
  • Research interest in Pulmonary, Allergy, Sleep, and Critical Care Medicine.
  • MD/DO or equivalent degree.

Qualifications by Rank

Assistant Professor (non-tenure or tenure-stream)

  • Three or more years of experience in related scientific research.
  • Obtained or demonstrate the ability to obtain external research funding.
  • Disseminated results through peer-reviewed publications and other scientific forums.
  • Significant teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate the capacity for sustained career development, promotion, and tenure.

Associate Professor (non-tenure, tenure-stream, tenured)

  • Five or more years of experience in related scientific research.
  • Independent, external research funding and a substantial record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Significant teaching experience.
  • Demonstrate the capacity for sustained, impactful, and independent scholarly contributions and leadership.

Professor (non-tenure, tenure-stream, tenured)

  • Served five to seven years as Associate Professor.
  • Attainment of authoritative knowledge and reputation in a recognized field of learning.
  • Achievement of effective teaching skills.
  • Superior stature in their field through scholarship, professional practice, and leadership in professional and learned organizations.
