About the role

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion (FBRI) seeks to recruit a senior or mid-career level biomedical imaging technology innovator for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the associate or full professor level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead an independent extramurally-funded research program focusing on advanced optical imaging technologies and their applications in cancer, neuroscience, and cardiovascular science.
  • Develop and lead the creation of new advanced imaging technologies for use by your laboratory and other investigators at the research institute.
  • Oversight of the current portfolio of imaging technologies and facilities.
  • Collaborate with other faculty at the research institute across various research focus areas.
  • Maintain extramural funding for your research program.
  • Participate in graduate teaching and provide research project mentorship for graduate, medical, and undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to programmatic grant development and multi-investigator collaborations.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. degree and completion of postdoctoral training.
  • Experience leading an independent extramurally-funded research program as a mid-career or senior level faculty member.
  • Experience in technology development, patenting, commercialization, and collaborative industry partnerships.
  • Specific research focus in cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular science, or a combination thereof.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree.
  • Completed postdoctoral training.
  • Successfully led an independent extramurally-funded research program as a mid-career or senior level faculty member.
  • Experience in developing new advanced imaging technologies for use by your laboratory and other investigators at the research institute.
  • Experience in overseeing the current portfolio of imaging technologies and facilities.
  • Research focus in cancer, neuroscience, cardiovascular science, or a combination thereof.

Skills

  • Experience in technology development, patenting, commercialization, and collaborative industry partnerships.
  • Leadership and oversight responsibility for imaging platforms and technical support staff.
  • Ability to collaborate with other faculty at the research institute across various research focus areas.
  • Experience in maintaining extramural funding for research programs.
  • Experience in graduate teaching and mentoring.
  • Experience in programmatic grant development and multi-investigator collaborations.

Benefits

The position will be located at the FBRI on Virginia Tech's health sciences and technology campus in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition to the position at the FBRI, the faculty member will also have a tenured or tenure-track (as appropriate) appointment in an appropriate VT department from among multiple colleges.

Pay

Commensurate with experience.

Schedule

40+ hours per week.
