Facility Mechanic - FT

About the role

The Facilities Mechanics – BMS Technicians at Vassar Brothers Medical Center are responsible for routine, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and extra assigned tasks related to hospital equipment. They also assist in fire and disaster plans.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine repairs on all building automation controls systems, including Air Handlers, Exhaust Systems, and other necessary equipment.
• Analyze malfunctions from verbal or written reports to determine necessary repairs and restore equipment to manufacturers' specifications within one hour or request assistance.
• Replace malfunctioning parts and document materials used, restoring equipment to operational status within a reasonable timeframe.
• Document operating conditions and limits for each piece of equipment, preventing repetitive issues.
• Read and interpret blueprints and specifications, estimate costs, and requisition materials and equipment.
• Clean equipment and the work area after completing tasks, maintaining a clean and organized shop.
• Conduct life safety inspections, including temperature and humidity logs and comfort logs, and respond to code reds during shifts.
• Complete work assignments professionally and promptly, ensuring timely resource utilization.
• Fill out work orders and time sheets with detailed descriptions of tasks, time spent, and completion status.
• Submit requests for materials as needed to complete assigned work orders.
• Adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of five to seven years of experience in mechanical work, preferably with knowledge of building automation and computer systems.
