About the role
The Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet (EEC) is seeking an interim Facility Maintenance Worker II to support the Division of Forestry/Forest Management Branch in Marion County. This is an interim position lasting less than nine months, exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115. The selected candidate may be authorized to telecommute, with the arrangement subject to termination or modification at any time.
The mission of the EEC is to improve the quality of life for Kentuckians by protecting land, air, and water resources while utilizing natural resources in an environmentally conscientious manner. This role contributes to the programmatic integrity of forestry-related programs and the consistent delivery of services to the public.
Responsibilities
- Locate and paint boundary lines on State Forests.
- Run and maintain mechanical equipment such as tractors, mowers, and weed-eaters for grounds maintenance.
- Assist with structure maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Maintain and pick up trash on trails, parking lots, and roadways.
Requirements
- One year of experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services, or mechanical maintenance.
- Ability to operate equipment including tractors, mowers, and string trimmers.
- Capability to walk extended amounts in wooded terrain, which may be steep and rugged.
- Willingness to perform tasks necessary for the maintenance and management of State Forests.
- Ability to use or learn basic computer skills.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Substitutions: Formal training in related fields may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
Working Conditions
Incumbents may be exposed to extreme temperatures and must follow safety procedures, including the use of eye and ear protection when operating mechanical equipment.
Pay
$16.42 hourly
