Basic Function: Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Facilities Support Driver provides transportation and facility maintenance support for Ada S. McKinley Community Services operations at the Fort Sheridan Army Reserve Base. The position begins each workday by safely transporting employees from the designated Chicago meeting location to the Fort Sheridan worksite in North Chicago. Following transportation responsibilities, the employee performs floor care and general facility maintenance to support a clean, safe, and well-maintained work environment. This position is well suited for an individual who enjoys a varied, hands-on workday and is comfortable performing both transportation and facility maintenance responsibilities. Floor care experience is preferred; however, Ada is willing to train candidates who demonstrate the appropriate work ethic, reliability, and ability to learn. Reporting Relationship Reports to: Project Manager Supervises (Position Title): None Principal Duties/Responsibilities Transportation Report to 1863 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, at 6:00 AM to transport employees to the Fort Sheridan Army Reserve Base.Safely transport a crew of up to 11 employees in a 15-passenger van.Follow all applicable traffic laws, transportation requirements, and safety procedures.Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after each shift.Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle.Communicate effectively with employees and management regarding transportation schedules, delays, or changes.Immediately report vehicle concerns, accidents, safety issues, or maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor. Floor Care and Facility Maintenance Operate commercial floor-care equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, burnishers, carpet extractors, and wet/dry vacuums.Strip, clean, seal, wax, and maintain hard-surface flooring.Remove existing floors and finish using appropriate stripping chemicals and floor-care equipment.Prepare floors for application of new finish and apply appropriate layers of floor finish as directed.Use burnishing equipment to maintain floor appearance and finish.Vacuum carpets and perform routine carpet maintenance.Pre-treat stains and high-traffic areas using appropriate cleaning products.Operate commercial carpet extractors and shampooing equipment.Clean and maintain restroom tile and grout.Remove dirt, buildup, and other debris from tile and grout surfaces.Apply appropriate sealants to tile surfaces as directed.Sweep, mop, buff, and maintain hard-surface floors.Maintain cleaning supplies and equipment in an organized and appropriate manner.Report equipment malfunctions, maintenance concerns, or facility conditions requiring attention.Follow all established cleaning, sanitation, chemical handling, and facility safety procedures. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Valid driver's license required.Acceptable driving record required.Previous experience operating a 15-passenger van or other passenger transportation vehicle preferred.Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, floor care, facilities maintenance, or commercial cleaning preferred.Experience with floor stripping, waxing, carpet extraction, tile cleaning, or related floor-care services preferred.Candidates without specialized floor-care experience may be considered based on related experience and willingness to learn. Skills, Knowledge, And Abilities Ability to safely operate and maneuver a 15-passenger van.Knowledge of safe driving practices and applicable traffic regulations.Ability to operate commercial floor-care equipment or learn to operate such equipment through training.Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining clean and orderly facilities.Ability to work independently and complete assigned responsibilities within established timeframes.Strong reliability and punctuality.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work cooperatively with employees and members of the work team.Ability to safely handle cleaning products and chemicals.Ability to recognize and report safety hazards, equipment concerns, and facility maintenance needs Part-Time Role Compensation $18.00 an hour 6.0 hours per day /4 days per week Mental/Physical Demands Ability to conceptualize and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally life and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
