Facilities Maintenance Specialist
About the role
Pepcer Construction is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team in Chicago-area offices. This role is highly visible and involves performing routine maintenance and repairs, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and building codes.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, ceilings, flooring, and basic carpentry.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and complete repairs efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Handle preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, and potential code issues.
- Maintain facilities in compliance with safety standards, building codes, and company expectations.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations such as power outages or water leaks when needed.
- Keep work areas safe, organized, and hazard-free.
- Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders from internal teams.
- Cookordinate with and escort outside vendors and contractors as needed.
- Verify work completion and ensure quality standards are met.
- Aid with minor renovation projects, office moves, and space reconfiguration.
- Support basic exterior and grounds needs, including seasonal coordination such as snow removal.
- Assist with furniture assembly, office setups, and equipment moves.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and storage areas in safe, working order.
- Document completed work, materials used, and follow-up needs in the maintenance or work order system.
- Communicate clearly with internal teams regarding timelines and job status.
- Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance programs, building systems, or processes.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of facilities or building maintenance experience (commercial or industrial preferred).
- Hands-on experience in at least one skilled trade (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or similar).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between Pepper locations in the Chicago area.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, and working in confined spaces.
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures.
- Availability to respond to emergency situations outside normal business hours when needed.
Preferred
- Trade certifications or technical training (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
- Experience with CMMS or work order systems.
- Forklift, lift, or other equipment certifications.
- OSHA or other safety training credentials.
Pay
The hourly midpoint for this role is $41/hour. We consider many factors when determining the actual hiring salary, including location, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, internal equity, and market demands.
