Responsibilities

  • Coordinate necessary work to prepare, operate, and remove various event equipment.
  • Operate and maintain stage lighting equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the counter-balanced fly system and associated pin-rail and pick-line rigging.
  • Operate and maintain sound and lighting systems.
  • Set up and move temporary show equipment.
  • Install and remove theatrical scenery and house curtains.
  • Maintain, launder, and repair costumes, towels, and other fabric items, including acting as a dresser for actors.
  • Perform all duties while maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety rules and regulations.
  • Operate mechanical systems such as pit-lifts, orchestra shell winches, chain motors, etc.
  • Operate personnel-lift devices.
  • Hang, connect to the dimming system, and operate theatrical lighting instruments.
  • Move and place audio gear such as microphones, speakers, monitors, control boards, and cable.
  • Install, remove, operate, and reconfigure stage curtains, portable flooring, scenery, props, and other theatrical items.
  • Sweep and mop stage areas for safety and proper audience presentation.
  • Maintain, operate, and repair spotlights.
  • Install, maintain, and operate equipment hung from counter-weighted battens.
  • Setup, maintain (including laundering), repair, and store costumes, wigs, and other items worn by performers, including towels and associated fabric items.
  • Assist performers with putting on and taking off costume items.
  • Perform other duties commonly associated with stage operations as required.

Qualifications

  • Basic entry-level knowledge of a back-stage theatrical working environment, usually acquired through formal education in the performing arts field or previous volunteer/work experience as a stage crew member in a high school, college, community theatre, music club, regional theatre, or professional performance venue.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities including normal hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling in a backstage environment, climbing stairs, ladders, and working at heights, lifting and moving heavy objects, following detailed or general directions, working varying and unusual work schedules, following and complying with employer's safety rules and regulations, standing frequently, walking frequently, sitting rarely, lifting frequently, carrying frequently, pushing frequently, pulling frequently, climbing occasionally, balancing occasionally, stooping occasionally, kneeling occasionally, crouching occasionally, crawling occasionally, reaching frequently, handling frequently, grasping frequently, feeling occasionally, talking frequently, hearing frequently, repetitive motions frequently, eye/foot coordination frequently, taste/smell rarely, performing manual tasks frequently.
