Part-Time Theater Stagehand

About the position

This is an on-campus, part-time appointment based in Champaign, Illinois, up to 19 hours per week. Hourly rate: $17.62. Applications accepted until the position is filled. The Stagehand is responsible for assisting with the set-up and tear-down of sets, props, lighting, and sound equipment for live performances and other events. Works closely with production crews and performers to ensure the smooth execution of shows and events. This is a physical labor-intensive position. The Stagehand is appointed on a schedule established by the Theatre Director. The position involves good communication and teamwork skills and ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist with the loading and unloading of equipment and materials.
• Set up and move scenery, props, and stage elements.
• Install and operate lighting and sound equipment.
• Assist with rigging and special effects.
• Perform general maintenance and repair of equipment.
• Ensure the safety of performers, crew, and audience members by following safety protocols and procedures.
• Follow directions and schedules provided by the stage manager and other production staff.
• Communicate effectively with other crew members and performers.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• 18 years of age or older.
• Literate in Microsoft Office.
• Tolerant of working on ladders or catwalks.
• Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with individuals from various backgrounds.
• Ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous projects while working independently.

Additional information for SURS annuitants

In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
