About the role

The External Relations Representative provides technical and administrative support to the Senior Advisor to the President by researching Capitol Hill statistics and headlines, representing Focus on the Family at legislative and community events in Washington DC, and creating, maintaining, and distributing management reports, memos, and other presentation documents. This role requires only general direction and works independently, referring unusual or complex problems to a supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Focus on the Family at legislative and community events in the Washington DC area by attending briefings, meetings, and other external events to make contacts and develop relationships that enhance the organization’s presence in DC.
  • At each event, is prepared with proper information to speak on behalf of Focus on the Family and articulate its stance and core values.
  • Exercises discernment in knowing when to speak up and when to remain silent and listen.
  • Interacts regularly with fellow ministries in the Washington D.C. area, promoting Focus on the Family’s relationships and speaking to coalition groups about related projects.
  • Attends conferences and events in the Washington D.C. area on behalf of Focus on the Family.
  • Assists with various Washington DC projects and follows up to ensure timely responses to assignments.
  • Maintains a full understanding of current issues and Focus on the Family’s response to those issues to promote or defend the organization’s position when appropriate.
  • Facilitates and coordinates communication among the Colorado Springs office, U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate offices, and other ministry partners.
  • Plans meetings and events for the Senior Advisor to the President and other constituents, both on Capitol Hill and in other areas, acting as a liaison to other ministries.
  • Assists with all projects involving the Senior Advisor to the President.
  • Serves as the point of contact for all office inquiries, reviewing, assessing, and filtering them, and either responding appropriately or directing them to the right person.
  • Researches and compiles information on behalf of the supervisor relating to Capitol Hill statistics, headlines, and other newsworthy material.
  • Relieves the supervisor of a variety of duties, using independent judgment to determine when to act and when to refer problems for personal attention.
  • Manages the Senior Advisor to the President’s schedule and travel arrangements, including reimbursement coordination, office calendar maintenance, and meeting arrangements.
  • Oversees office expenses in partnership with the Colorado Springs office.
  • Handles concerns and repairs of the office building, including coordinating repairs, alerting property managers, and performing building maintenance duties.
  • Maintains files for reports and coordinates special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in administration, budgeting, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of Focus on the Family’s mission, philosophy, values, and objectives.
  • Knowledge of various software applications, including Windows, Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, and Access.

Pay

$35.00 to $42.00 per hour.
