About the role

The 4-H Extension Agent will be located in Gaston County and will lead the local 4-H program, managing its day-to-day operations. The 4-H program is a dynamic community fostering leadership, citizenship, and life skills among young people, with a focus on serving limited-resource youth in alignment with the National 4-H Council and Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T. The agent will plan, execute, and evaluate comprehensive 4-H programs addressing county needs, collaborating with community organizations to deliver programs and recruit participants.

Programs will develop leadership and workforce skills in youth through 4-H clubs, special interest programs, projects, after-school programs, summer day camps, school enrichment programs, and other established delivery methods. The agent will engage diverse communities, particularly limited-resource audiences, to ensure inclusive and impactful programming while leveraging available resources to expand youth opportunities and strengthen the 4-H program in Gaston County.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and evaluate effective and comprehensive 4-H programs addressing county population needs.
  • Collaborate with county and community-based organizations to deliver programs and recruit participants.
  • Conduct needs assessments to determine program needs and priorities.
  • Evaluate program impacts using data from advisory committee members, county residents, and program participants.
  • Develop and implement programs focused on leadership and workforce skills through various delivery methods, including:
    • Organized 4-H clubs
    • Special interest youth programs
    • 4-H projects
    • After-school programs
    • Summer day camps
    • School enrichment programs
  • Engage diverse communities, with a focus on limited-resource audiences, to ensure inclusive programming.
  • Leverage available resources to develop initiatives that expand opportunities for youth and strengthen the 4-H program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in the major field of study (based on a 4.0 scale), or completion of a Master’s degree.
  • Personal automobile and valid driver’s license.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs.
  • Willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities.
  • N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.

Pay

  • Bachelor’s degree: $40,000 minimum
  • Master’s degree: $45,000 minimum
  • Doctorate: $50,000 minimum

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week, 12 months.
  • On-site (employees are primarily in the office and/or have a critical job requirement that requires dedicated office space).
