About the role
To support Operations and Legal teams by ensuring Smith’s compliance with regional and global trade compliance regulations.
Responsibilities
- Understand regional and global rules and regulatory requirements and advise management/adapt processes where required
- Ensure Smith’s adherence to regulatory requirements relating to activities such as import/export controls
- Provide general trade compliance guidance and support to Smith’s internal stakeholders
- Assist in execution of internal and external audits relating to trade compliance and implementation of corrective actions
- Work with Export Licensing and Quality Control teams to research and maintain customs related master data (e.g., part type classification information)
- Work with third party service providers (e.g., freight forwarders) to ensure proper execution of and documentation for international shipments
- Investigate and report unusual business activity that may result in a violation and/or inquiry to senior management
Requirements
- 3+ years of trade compliance experience preferred
- 3+ years of experience with HTS database management preferred
- Prior experience working in the semiconductor/electronics distribution industry a plus
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English are required
- Must be detail oriented and organized
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (i.e., logistics or supply chain) or equivalent job experience preferred
- ECTI certification preferred
Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with DNB, Alliance or other trade compliance tools
- Capable of interpreting regulations and translating them into business practices
- Strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation, organizational and teaching skills
- Ability to drive compliance behaviors in good balance with business objectives
