The role involves supporting the client’s EHS team, specifically the ergonomics group, in identifying, assessing, and mitigating ergonomic risks in manufacturing and office environments.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site ergonomic assessments in industrial environments (e.g., manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, logistics, construction, utilities).
  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize ergonomic risk factors related to manual material handling, repetitive tasks, awkward postures, vibration, and forceful exertions.
  • Coordinate with EHS, Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to implement ergonomic improvements.
  • Support the review and research of published design standards on workstation design, equipment selection, process changes, and job/task design.
  • Support injury prevention efforts, including analysis of musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) trends, root cause investigations, and return-to-work accommodations.
  • Prepare concise technical reports, risk assessments, and recommendations within the client’s reporting systems or as standalone reports.
  • Stay current on ergonomics standards, best practices, and regulatory expectations relevant to industrial work.
  • Maintain strong communications between the client and Apex leadership.
  • Perform job/task analyses, including documentation of key risk factors, photos/diagrams (as allowed), and summary risk ratings for each task evaluated.
  • Develop written recommendations for controls (engineering, administrative, and equipment/fit-up) with implementation priorities and expected risk reduction, with support from the client’s ergonomic team.
  • Support design and refinement of tools, fixtures, and workstation layouts in collaboration with engineering, operations, and EHS.
  • Assist with follow-up verification (e.g., post-implementation checks, simple exposure/risk scoring) to confirm effectiveness of implemented controls.
  • Prepare concise ergonomic assessment reports and maintain an assessment log summarizing location, task, findings, and status of recommendations.
  • Contribute to targeted training or coaching sessions (e.g., “how to use sit-stand desks,” “material handling best practices”) using client-provided materials.
  • Participate in EHS meetings, incident reviews, and ergonomic case discussions as requested, providing ergonomic input for investigations and corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Ergonomics, Human Factors, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of professional ergonomics experience, with an emphasis on industrial settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Manual material handling analysis
    • Task and job hazard analysis
    • Ergonomic assessment tools (e.g., REBA, RULA, NIOSH Lifting Equation, Strain Index)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and influence front-line workers through effective communication.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (e.g., AEP, CEAS, CPE).
  • Experience working within EHS or injury prevention programs.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, automation, heavy equipment, and material handling systems.
  • Experience supporting multi-site or enterprise-level ergonomics programs.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk industrial facilities, climb stairs/ladders, and observe physical work activities.
  • Ability to lift light equipment (e.g., measurement tools, laptops).

Benefits

  • Company-subsidized medical and dental.
  • Company-paid life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance.
  • 401k match.

  • Cross-training and the ability to work on a variety of projects.
  • Performance-based bonuses or other incentives.
