Responsibilities

  • I) Role: Regional Market Development
    • Develop, grow, and defend market share for asphalt emulsions, pavement preservation products, and related specialty asphalt solutions throughout the assigned territory.
    • Conduct all business activities ethically, legally, and in accordance with company policies.
    • Develop and execute regional sales strategies to increase emulsion volumes and profitability.
    • Identify and pursue market opportunities in chip seals, micro surfacing, slurry seals, cold mix, tack coats, fog seals, scrub seals, and other preservation treatments.
    • Maintain a thorough understanding of market demand, pricing trends, specifications, and competitive activity.
    • Build and strengthen relationships with key contractors, DOT personnel, municipal agencies, consultants, and industry stakeholders.
    • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for customers regarding product selection, performance, and best practices.
    • Proactively manage pricing strategies, bid opportunities, and contract negotiations to maximize margin and market share.
    • Ensure sales contracts, pricing agreements, and customer records are accurate and maintained in company systems.
    • Monitor DOT lettings, project awards, and pavement preservation funding opportunities.
    • Track project activity and market trends to support accurate forecasting and planning.
    • Collaborate with technical services teams to support product approvals, specification development, and field trials.
  • II) Role: Financial/Position Management
    • Manage the financial performance and strategic positioning of the emulsions business throughout the assigned territory.
    • Drive profitable growth through strategic account management and market expansion.
    • Optimize regional sales mix to maximize margin and return on assets.
    • Identify new specialty emulsion opportunities and emerging pavement preservation technologies.
    • Develop annual business plans, sales objectives, and growth initiatives.
    • Manage and understand key cost drivers, including raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, and technical support costs.
    • Work closely with supply chain and operations teams to optimize inventory and terminal utilization.
    • Maintain accurate sales forecasts and update projections monthly or when significant market changes occur.
    • Analyze profitability by customer, product line, and geographic market.
    • Monitor market pricing and competitive activity to maintain favorable positioning.
  • III) Role: Operational Management
    • Ensure exceptional product quality, supply reliability, customer service, and operational efficiency.
    • Coordinate closely with operations, technical services, and supply chain teams to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
    • Manage customer demand forecasts and communicate anticipated needs to manufacturing facilities.
    • Support efficient inventory management at production facilities and terminals.
    • Absist in resolving supply disruptions and proactively communicate with customers regarding changes or delays.
    • Monitor logistics performance to ensure cost-effective transportation and dependable service.
    • Evaluate and assist with resolution of customer concerns, product claims, and field performance issues.
    • Support quality control programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Participate in product testing, demonstrations, and field evaluations when necessary.
    • Evaluate and assist with resolution of customer concerns, product claims, and field performance issues.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including: Product certifications and quality standards, Environmental regulations, Anti-trust compliance, Intellectual property requirements, Employment laws and business ethics standards.
    • Promote a culture of safety throughout all customer interactions and facility visits.
  • IV) Role: Talent Management
    • Develop and support team members to maximize performance, engagement, and career growth.
    • Mentor, coach, and develop direct reports.
    • Establish clear performance goals and professional development plans.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
    • Identify training opportunities to strengthen technical, commercial, and leadership capabilities.
    • Monitor workload, priorities, and development needs of team members.
    • Participate actively in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new employees.
    • Foster a collaborative and customer-focused culture throughout the organization.
  • V) Role: Industry Involvement
    • Strengthen the company's presence and reputation within the asphalt emulsions and pavement preservation industry.
    • Maintain active involvement in relevant industry associations and technical organizations.
    • Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, educational events, and technical meetings.
    • Support marketing initiatives through presentations, customer seminars, and industry publications.
    • Seek opportunities to present technical papers and educational programs.
    • Participate in committee assignments, working groups, and leadership positions within industry organizations.
    • Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments affecting asphalt emulsions and pavement preservation.

Qualifications

  • College degree preferred.
  • 5 years of sales experience in the asphalt industry.
  • Ability to speak in public.
  • Ability to relate to all customers on a business and technical basis – contractors, owner agencies, consulting engineers.
  • Well-established favorable industry reputation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and able to bend, stoop and kneel as needed.
  • Able to wear proper PPE when required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires working in office conditions, performing some clerical work, working periodically outside in a manufacturing plant environment, with and around operational process equipment in temperature extremes for periods of time.
  • Able to work around asphalt and other related chemicals on an ongoing basis.
  • Able to provide job site and field support of projects.
  • Able and willing to travel for business needs.
