About the role
The Bag House Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of bagging equipment used to package finished products for shipment. This position ensures production goals are met while maintaining the highest standards of product quality, equipment reliability, housekeeping, and workplace safety. The ideal candidate will monitor production equipment, perform routine inspections, troubleshoot minor mechanical issues, and work closely with team members to maximize productivity while maintaining a clean and organized work environment. This is a Safety-Sensitive Position requiring attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a strong commitment to following safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and adjust bagging and palletizing equipment to ensure efficient production.
- Set up bagging and palletizing machines for various production runs and product specifications.
- Monitor product flow and equipment performance throughout production.
- Inspect finished bags for proper weight, seal integrity, labeling accuracy, and overall product quality.
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
- Troubleshoot minor mechanical or operational issues and report major repairs to maintenance personnel.
- Record production data, equipment downtime, material usage, and quality information accurately.
- Load packaging materials into equipment as needed.
- Stack, palletize, wrap, and prepare finished products for storage or shipment.
- Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas following housekeeping standards.
- Follow all company safety, environmental, quality, and operational procedures.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Communicate production issues, equipment concerns, and operational updates with supervisors and team members.
- Assist with other production duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous manufacturing, production, warehouse, or equipment operating experience preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot basic equipment issues.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.
- Basic math and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating automated bagging or packaging equipment.
- Manufacturing or industrial production experience.
- Forklift certification or experience (preferred but not required).
- Knowledge of quality control procedures.
- Experience using production reporting systems.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and reach.
- Climb stairs and access elevated platforms as needed.
- Work in manufacturing environments with exposure to dust, loud equipment, and moving machinery.
- Work safely in varying temperatures depending on production conditions.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe footwear, and respiratory protection when required.
- Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
