About the role
The Equipment Operator plays a critical role in the efficient and safe operation of heavy machinery within our Grand Rapids facility. This position is responsible for handling, maneuvering, and maintaining various types of equipment to support production and operational goals. The successful candidate will ensure that all equipment is operated in compliance with safety standards and company policies, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying mechanical issues and collaborating with maintenance teams to resolve them promptly. Ultimately, the Equipment Operator contributes to a smooth workflow by supporting material movement and site operations with precision and care.
Responsibilities
- Always operate equipment in a safe manner.
- Perform loading, unloading, and timely delivery of material to assigned/approved destination.
- Serve as a company ambassador in every interaction with clients and the public.
- Conduct daily inspections and perform preventative maintenance on the equipment.
- Perform shop clean-up, maintenance, and equipment/tools setup.
- Maintain operation records.
Requirements
- Operate heavy/agricultural equipment safely.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
- Clean MVR.
- Dump truck and/or yard jockey experience a plus, not required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Class A or B CDL preferred.
- Minimum 2 years heavy equipment operator work experience preferred.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Sitting, climbing, balancing, reaching, standing, walking, feeling, lifting to 50 lbs., talking, hearing, and seeing.
- Subject to confined spaces.
- Subject to outside environmental conditions with no effective protection from weather.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions.
- Subject to hazards including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to bio-solids.
- This position requires overtime.
