About the role

This position will be responsible for maintaining our state roadway systems. The difference you will make includes contributing to a strong and empowering culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication.

Responsibilities

  • Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, tractor trailer, drainage vacuum truck, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance;
  • Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment;
  • Checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc.;
  • Cleans and washes equipment;
  • Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways;
  • Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs;
  • Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of: MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS; STANDARD SAFETY RULES AND PROCEDURES.
  • Skills in: OPERATING A VARIETY OF HAND AND POWER TOOLS; OPERATING AND PERFORMING MINOR MAINTENANCE ON SMALL/MEDIUM EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES.
  • Ability to: OPERATE A VARIETY OF HEAVY EQUIPMENT; READ AND UNDERSTAND JOB-RELATED MATERIALS AND FILL OUT REPORTS AND FORMS; MAINTAIN AND REPAIR HIGHWAYS, BRIDGES AND/OR OTHER HIGHWAY STRUCTURES; COMMUNICATE BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, INCLUDING FOLLOWING ORAL/WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS; DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS; LIFT, CARRY, AND HANDLE UP TO 50 POUNDS; STOOP, CLIMB, SQUAT, PUSH, PULL, CRAWL OR BEND ON A FREQUENT BASIS; WORK OUTDOORS IN VARIOUS WEATHER CONDITIONS ON VARIOUS TERRAINS AND AT VARIOUS HEIGHTS OR IN HIGH VOLUME TRAFFIC; WORK INDEPENDENTLY; STAND FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires one year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles. Possess a valid Class "B" CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air brakes is required at time of hire.
