About the role
The Equipment Operator / Tampa Operations Center position is responsible for maintaining the state roadway system. This role involves minor maintenance and servicing work, checking and adding fluids, adjusting brakes, maintaining tire pressure, cleaning and washing equipment, operating various types of small and medium equipment, and overseeing crews performing maintenance activities.
Responsibilities
- Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment.
- Cleans and washes equipment.
- Operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment such as dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer, and asphalt repair truck.
- Maintains and repairs highways, bridges, and other highway structures using a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
- Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision.
- Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting, and assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs.
- Assists with crew activity reports as needed.
Requirements
- One year of experience operating small/medium equipment and vehicles.
- A Class E driver's license at time of hire.
- A CDL Class B License Instructional Permit within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class B license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
- Valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record.

- Operate a variety of heavy equipment.
- Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms.
- Maintain and repair highways, bridges, and/or other highway structures.
- Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds.
- Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic.
- Work independently.
- Stand for an extended period of time.

Pay
Anticipated Biweekly Salary: $1,581.69
Annual Salary Range: $38,550.78 - $49,889.24
