Responsibilities
- Supervises the work activities of Environmental Services personnel and lower level supervisors to ensure neat, orderly, and attractive conditions in the hospital.
- Absorb and enforce all compliance requirements consistent with the organization's values.
- Adhere to hospital policies including confidentiality.
- Assists the orientation of new employees.
- Assigns and supervises a crew of ten or more custodial workers in sweeping, mopping, waxing, and dusting floors, cleaning and waxing furniture.
- Tours facility throughout shift checking areas, offices, public areas, service departments and stairwells.
- Instructs an employee in the use of equipment and proper cleaning procedures.
- Assists in special projects and research to update techniques, study cost savings, etc.
- Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of the hospital and initiates necessary work orders.
- Assists in planning, revising, and coordinating all operative and departmental policies and standards.
- Prepares daily assignment schedules to include established routines, as well as special areas to be cleaned.
- Ensures supplies and equipment available for employees supervised.
- Performs patient care/essential functions with minimal supervision.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment and/or objects to perform essential functions.
- Initiates disciplinary process, informs department head.
- Communicates using appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, healthcare team, and staff in person and via telephone.
- Maintains communication and acts as liaison between all shifts and departments to ensure a smooth operation and continuity of work.
- Maintains accurate and complete records.
- Assists in the maintenance of all statistical data and reporting systems such as productivity reports.
- Prepares daily assignment schedules to include established routines, as well as special areas to be cleaned.
- Keeps personnel records of employees such as hours worked, attendance, and performance documentation.
- Keeps records of rooms cleaned and projects completed.
- Maintains records necessary for payroll operations including time sheets, vacation, sick leave, and overtime records; prepares requisitions for cleaning supplies and materials.
- Recommends and performs necessary documentation for employee disciplinary actions; assists personnel with the completions and documentation of reports.
- Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict.
- Cooperates, helps others, and improves the performance of the unit.
- Completes all mandatory unit educational and hospital requirements.
- Utilizes cost-effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
- Inspects rooms and common areas.
- Responds to and resolves customer concerns.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational, and hospital requirements.
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.
- Regular and prompt attendance.
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 2 years of supervisory experience in a directly related field.
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
