About the role
The role involves helping to manage hazardous materials at DLA Disposition Services sites, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and overseeing disposal processes.
Responsibilities
- Performs direct compliance responsibilities for hazardous materials storage and disposal.
- Determines and obtains necessary permits for hazardous materials storage.
- Ensures regulatory compliance for disposal activities at various sites.
- Conducts pre-receipt inspections and provides technical guidance to staff.
- Furnishes guidance to sales and reutilization personnel regarding hazardous materials.
- Implements and administers an Environmental Management System (EMS).
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade, time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement.
- Specialized experience that includes managing hazardous materials, understanding and applying environmental regulations, and overseeing disposal processes.
- Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education, or combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience.
- Physical demands: Frequent inspections of generator collection points and areas, field office warehousing facilities, and observing customer/contractor on-site operations.
- Work environment: Regular and recurring exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous collection and storage facilities.
Qualifications
- Specialized experience that includes utilizing and interpreting practices and procedures for receipt, storage, sale, and disposal of environmentally sensitive materials and waste.
- Understanding and following principles of the Environmental Program by providing guidance and assistance to generator personnel, DLA Disposition Services personnel, and customer/contracted personnel.
- Applying various local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws related to the receipt, storage, handling, transportation, sale, and disposal of hazardous and toxic materials and waste.
- Performing tasks related to the oversight of disposal contracts, inspections of materials, containers, and storage facilities, and determining their nature and condition.
