About the role

The Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist position with the Department of Environmental Protection offers the chance to protect public health while supporting safe drinking water across the region. This role blends technical work, communication, and problem solving to help water systems stay in compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare educational materials, including newsletter articles, to help the regulated community understand safe drinking water rules and policies

  • Provide technical guidance and training to field personnel, water system operators and the public regarding compliance requirements

  • Review violations and prepare enforcement documents such as notices, orders and penalty assessments to address issues and corrective actions

  • Compile records, research case history and coordinate with legal staff to support prosecution and resolution of enforcement cases

  • Track violations, penalties and schedules in program databases and generate reports that support compliance oversight

  • Review compliance efforts in assigned areas and draft recommendations for improving enforcement processes and outcomes

Qualifications

  • One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)

  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

  • PA residency requirement

Pay

In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Schedule

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
