Duties

  • Helps serve as the senior Environmental Protection Specialist within assigned areas and supports DLA Disposition Services Field Activities disposing of hazardous materials/waste.
  • Maintains and enhances relationships with customers and coordinates customer outreach initiatives.
  • Promotes timely Reutilization, Transfer, Donation (RTD)/Sales to prevent service contracts from being used for ultimate disposal.
  • Conducts on-site reviews/inspections of environmental operations and ensures compliance with applicable policies/laws/regulations.
  • Solves problems associated with the receipt and disposal of hazardous materials/waste.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and conducts special studies of DLA Disposition Services automated accounts to evaluate hazardous property inventory integrity and accuracy.
  • Aids management in the strategic planning process to align DLA Disposition Services organizations with DLA Disposition Services/DLA/DoD objectives and goals.
  • Identifies, develops, coordinates, and provides support to implement new/revised policies, procedures, plans, and programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tour of duty: Set schedule.
  • Security requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive.
  • Appointment subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
  • Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

  • Appointees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.

Qualifications

  • To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
  • Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
  • To qualify at the GS-12, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Education

  • Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
