About the role

Help Serves as the senior Environmental Protection Specialist within assigned areas and supports DLA Disposition Services Field Activities disposing of hazardous materials/waste.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and enhances relationships between customers and DLA and coordinates customer outreach initiatives.
  • Promotes timely Reutilization, Transfer, Donation (RTD)/Sales to prevent service contracts from being used for ultimate disposal.
  • Conducts on-site reviews/inspections of environmental operations and ensures compliance with applicable policies/laws/regulations.
  • Solves problems associated with the receipt and disposal of hazardous materials/waste.
  • Aids in the strategic planning process to align DLA Disposition Services organizations with DLA Disposition Services/DLA/DoD objectives and goals.
  • Identifies, develops, coordinates, and provides support to implement new/revised policies, procedures, plans, and programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tour of Duty: Full Time.
  • Security Requirements: Non Critical Sensitive.
  • Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, where reciprocity cannot be applied; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
  • Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.

Qualifications

  • To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience.
  • To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector.
  • Specialized Experience: Conducting audits of environmental operations and facilities, ensuring all hazardous materials/waste practices are in compliance with all DoD federal and state environmental requirements.
  • Researching, developing, and conducting training seminars on environmental operations and programs.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and correcting environmental deficiencies and determining the best disposal solutions.

  • Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
