Environmental Specialist
About the role
Alliant is seeking to add a motivated and enthusiastic professional to join our growing Environmental Services Group. This is a tremendous opportunity to work with a group of exceptional environmentalists and play a key role in continuing to grow our group within Alliant.
Responsibilities
- Aid construction projects with environmental permit compliance, primarily the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) construction permit by conducting erosion control inspections
- Aid designers with Stormwater Pollution Prevent Plan (SWPPP) development
- Help construction sites anticipate and prevent environmental problems
- Conduct wetland delineations following the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) 1987 Manual and applicable Regional Supplements and develop wetland delineation reports
- Prepare appropriate environmental permit applications which may include NPDES, USACE Section 404 Clean Water Act (CWA), MPCA 401 Water Quality Certification, Wetland Conservation Act (WCA), Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR) Public Waters, and MN DNR Threatened and Endangered Species
- Aid in MEPA and NEPA environmental documentation including Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments (EA and EAW) and Categorical Exclusions (CATEX)
- Use ESRI software to map site conditions and natural resources
- Write technical reports
- Support and work on a variety of projects in sectors such as transportation, land development, survey, traffic, and planning
- Able to work cohesively with a team of environmental specialists and Project Managers and also work independently
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, Soil Science, Environmental Planning, or related field
- 1-5 years of relevant experience related to environmental compliance, wetland delineation, wetland permitting, and environmental documentation
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Software
- Able to work in locations that feature rough terrain and travel locally/regionally approximately 10-20% of the time as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Transportation/DOT and/or Land Development projects
- Working knowledge of software including ArcGIS, Trimble GPS, Field Maps, Microstation, and/or AutoCAD
- Certified Minnesota Wetland Professional or Professional In-Training (CMWP or CMWPIT)
- U of M Certification - Erosion and Sediment Control Installer, Site Management or SWPPP Designer

Pay
The base pay for this position is expected to be in the range of $60,000 - $75,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
