Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking an Environmental Specialist for our Lab & Onsite Support Services (Lab/OSS) team. This role supports clients on-site by managing their hazardous waste programs and projects, utilizing state and federal regulations. Triumvirate serves leading organizations in higher education, life sciences, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing with compliance management services.

About the role

This position reports to the Operations Manager and is based on-site at client locations in College Park, MD and Laurel, MD. The Environmental Specialist frequently handles hazardous chemicals and biological waste, wears personal protective equipment, and is considered safety-sensitive.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an understanding of OSHA regulations and Triumvirate’s Health and Safety practices
  • Prepare chemical and biological waste for shipment and disposal, including creation of all federal/state waste documents and managing paperwork
  • Safely handle hazardous waste containers on client sites, including loading/unloading waste from vehicles
  • Conduct safety equipment and hazardous waste inspections
  • Perform and document Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) audits for clients
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by providing outstanding support and innovative solutions
  • Develop high-level expertise in state and federal regulations (e.g., RCRA, DOT, OSHA) to ensure client compliance
  • Conduct spill response measures, including assessment and cleanup efforts
  • Participate in rotating on-call responsibilities as part of the Emergency Response team

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the hazardous-waste industry, or relevant military experience
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for client, colleague, and stakeholder interactions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement strategies
  • Skilled in building strong, positive relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to work overtime on a regular basis
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (Monday through Friday)
  • Ability to complete a 2- to 3-year professional advancement program in hazardous waste management
  • Must report to the office within 1 hour during Emergency Response rotating shifts
  • Valid US driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to consent to Motor Vehicle Record screening, criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen (inclusive of THC)
  • Participation in a random drug screening program (inclusive of THC) upon employment
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without future sponsorship
  • Ability to lift 60 pounds on a regular basis

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior relevant industry experience
  • Prior successful experience in a customer service role
  • Active HAZWOPER 24- or 40-hour certification
  • Willingness to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Pay

Pay Range: $22 USD per hour
