Job Description and Duties

Travel may be required locally and within the state up to 20% of the time. This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your applications. Ensure you provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions. Failing to maintain a valid CDL will result in a failure to meet job requirements.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program needs. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the positions designated headquarters location, as reflected on the duty statement and at their own expense.

Working Conditions

The incumbent works in a high-rise office building in downtown Sacramento, in an office cubicle in a smoke-free environment. The work schedule is Monday through Friday. Mandatory overtime, including evening and weekend work may be necessary during the year end closing process or when the department is mission tasked. Travel may be required locally and within the state.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Program Planning, Management, and Evaluation
  • - Experience overseeing complex programs and policies related to environmental justice, tribal relations, border-region issues, environmental education, or youth leadership. Includes strategic planning, project management, budgets/contracts, and development of performance measures.
  • - Experience conducting outreach and building collaborative relationships with Tribes, environmental justice organizations, youth-serving partners, border-region partners, and local, state, and federal agencies. Includes consultation, interagency coordination, and community engagement.
  • - Ability to present scientific, environmental, or policy concepts clearly to diverse audiences. Includes writing, public speaking, development of communication materials, and incorporation of language-access best practices.
  • - Ability to produce accurate, concise, high-quality materials such as briefings, white papers, reports, presentations, educational tools, and scientific explanations.
  • - Experience managing staff, leading innovative teams, mentoring employees, setting workload priorities, supporting professional growth, and fostering an inclusive and culturally responsive work environment.
