Environmental Field-Testing Technician

About the role

This entry-level Project Scientist I (Environmental Field-Testing Technician) position involves conducting air emissions testing for industrial clients. You will work outdoors or in industrial environments as part of a test crew, traveling weekly to customer sites within the state to perform testing projects, often requiring overnight hotel stays. The role includes working at heights on platforms and climbing smokestacks (50ft–300ft).

Responsibilities

• Support basic aspects of testing projects, including equipment preparation, deployment, staging/breakdown, and sample collection/recovery.
• Conduct on-site field testing and transport testing equipment to customer sites.
• Prepare testing equipment and perform quality assurance.
• Represent the company professionally at customer sites and in the office.
• Follow test methods, procedures, and processes for quality source testing.
• Apply mechanical and electrical skills to troubleshoot testing systems.
• Perform equipment preparation, deployment, staging/breakdown, and sampling.

Requirements

• Willingness to work outdoors or in industrial environments (extreme heat, cold, wind, etc.).
• Ability and willingness to work at elevated heights on stack platforms up to 300 feet.
• Ability to travel weekly in a company vehicle, including overnight stays as needed.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Strong aptitude to learn MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe products.
• High degree of dexterity for using tools and equipment.

Physical Requirements

• Consistent standing or walking.
• Consistent bending, crouching, or stooping.
• Frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Climbing ladders and/or stairs.
• Use of tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
• Ability to distinguish between shades of color.

Preferred Qualifications

Individuals with a background or experience in environmental response/sample collection, mechanical, construction, or electrical work fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

Pay

The pay range for this entry-level role is $20–$22 per hour, based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.

Schedule

Monday–Friday with some travel (company vehicle provided) and paid hotel stays. Most weekends are off.
