Entry Level Mechanical Engineer
About the Role
The NNL Submarine Reactor Acoustics & Carrier Vibration unit ensures associated design requirements for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants are satisfied. Engineers in this unit support laboratory testing, perform analyses, and provide guidance to the Naval Reactors (NR) Program design communities. They also develop technologies to mitigate shipboard noise and vibration issues.
The successful candidate will perform varied tasks to support technology development and application addressing noise and vibration issues on submarine and aircraft carrier reactor plants. Responsibilities include hands-on laboratory testing on fundamental or prototypic setups, installation and operation of dynamic instrumentation, and analysis of test data. This position may require travel to vendors, other NNL sites, shipyards, or fleet locations to support emergent testing.
Candidates should have strong verbal and written communication skills, program management, and leadership abilities, with experience working in a multidisciplinary teaming environment.
Responsibilities
- Support laboratory testing and perform analyses for Naval Nuclear Propulsion Plants.
- Provide guidance to the Naval Reactors (NR) Program design communities.
- Develop technologies to mitigate shipboard noise and vibration issues.
- Conduct hands-on laboratory testing, including installation and operation of dynamic instrumentation.
- Analyze test data and interface with cognizant organizations for component/system vibroacoustic support.
- Travel to vendors, NNL sites, shipyards, or fleet locations for emergent testing as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, or science field; or a Master’s degree in a related field.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in acoustics, vibration, shock, dynamics, and/or signal processing.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, program management, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary teaming environment.

Pay
Pay Range: $63,900.00 - $97,800.00 annually. Salary is based on candidate experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.
