Entry-Level Business Development Representative (BDR)
About the role
Incident.io is an AI software reliability platform trusted by engineering teams at Netflix, Etsy, and over 2,000 companies that can't afford downtime. The Sales Academy is a three‑month temporary program that trains new Business Development Representatives (BDRs) with no prior sales experience, preparing them to sell a product that engineering teams rely on when incidents occur. The goal is to convert participants into permanent BDRs after the academy, launching a long‑term go‑to‑market career. Applications for the January 2027 cohort close on December 1; a second cohort begins in April 2027 with hiring starting January 4. The role is based in the San Francisco office, and relocation assistance is not provided.
The interview process consists of: (1) application and aptitude assessment (submit your LinkedIn profile and contact details, then complete a 25‑minute assessment); (2) a half‑day on‑site interview in the San Francisco office with the sales team; (3) an offer.
Responsibilities
- Participate in intensive training on prospect research, cold calling, writing effective outreach, and handling objections.
- Learn how incident.io works, who we sell to, and why customers buy.
- Complete daily practice, homework, and receive coaching from sales leaders and tenured sellers.
- After training, work as a BDR on live accounts: make calls, send outreach, and book meetings that feed the sales pipeline.
- Develop the ability to hold a cold call with a CTO by the end of the program.
Requirements
- No prior BDR or sales experience required; open to new graduates, career switchers (teaching, military, sport, performing, retail, door‑to‑door, events, fundraising).
- Strong motivation to break into tech sales and ability to articulate why you want this role.
- Genuine curiosity about engineering challenges and what drives buying decisions.
- Demonstrated resilience – comfortable hearing “no” and staying positive.
- Openness to coaching and willingness to act on feedback.
- Comfort talking to strangers; the phone does not intimidate you.
- Enjoy learning alongside a cohort and want peers to succeed.
Skills
- Prospect research and account targeting.
- Cold calling and outreach email composition.
- Objection handling and conversation management.
- Understanding of incident.io’s product and value proposition for engineering teams.
- Basic sales pipeline activities: booking meetings and feeding opportunities.

Pay
Compensation range: $75,000 (annualized).
Benefits
Benefits (health, retirement, etc.) commence upon conversion to a permanent BDR role; they are not provided during the 3‑month academy.
