Enterprise - Platform Engineer - Ansible, Kubernetes, Linux
About the role
We are seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our technically strong and growth-oriented team. You will contribute to the development of custom software components and integration of open-source code to address complex problems using cutting-edge Big Data and Cloud technology. The ideal candidate is a strong systems integrator with an eye for enhancing, optimizing, or increasing the robustness of existing codebases. This role allows partial telework and involves working in a hybrid environment with a great team.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for software from prototype to operational applications.
- Leverage infrastructure as code and modern tools to define, build, and manage virtual infrastructure in the cloud.
- Work autonomously to identify and solve problems quickly while aligning with broader strategic goals set by Architects.
- Deploy and manage Kubernetes (or vendor flavors) and container build tooling (Docker/Podman, Helm, Kustomize, Flux CD, etc.).
- Develop automation for OS deployment and orchestration (e.g., kickstart, Ansible, Puppet).
- Write and maintain code in Python or Go, with proficiency in shell scripting (Bash).
- Troubleshoot complex issues related to Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and applications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five plus (5+) years of experience in Platform Engineering or Software Development (Python or Go) with a Bachelor’s in a related field; or three (3) years of relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and nine (9) years of relevant experience.
- U.S. citizenship (required for security clearance processing).
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment, averaging 2 days per week at our San Antonio office.
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes as needed.
Skills
- OS deployment and orchestration (e.g., kickstart, Ansible, Puppet).
- Deploying and managing Kubernetes (or vendor flavors) and container automation tools (e.g., Helm, Kustomize, Flux CD).
- Container build tooling (Docker/Podman).
- Programming in Python or Go, with proficiency in shell scripting (Bash).
- Strong understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and applications.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Secret or TS/SCI level security clearance.
- Experience with OS and container hardening (STIGs, CIS benchmarks, PCI compliance).
- Experience developing and deploying infrastructure in AWS.
- Experience writing automation in CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab-CI, Travis-CI, Jenkins).
- Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab).
- Familiarity with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other Big Data systems (e.g., Cloudera CDH Hadoop, MapR Hadoop, Databricks, Apache Spark).
- DoD 8140 / 8570 IAT Level II compliance certifications (may be required).

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 - $265,000, depending on education and years of experience.
Clearance
A current U.S. Government Security clearance is not required on day one but will be processed. Candidates with current Secret or TS/SCI level clearance are preferred.
