About the role
We are seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to join our technically strong and growth-oriented team. You will contribute to the development of custom software components and integration of open-source code to address complex problems using cutting-edge Big Data and Cloud technology. The ideal candidate is a strong systems integrator with an eye for enhancing, optimizing, or increasing the robustness of existing codebases. Work is performed in a hybrid environment with a collaborative team.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for software from prototype to operational applications.
- Develop and deploy infrastructure in AWS using infrastructure as code and modern tools to define, build, and manage virtual infrastructure in the cloud.
- Leverage Kubernetes (or vendor flavors), including cluster administration and troubleshooting, as well as container build tooling (Docker/Podman) and Kubernetes automation tools (e.g., Helm, Kustomize, Flux CD).
- Apply a solid understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash).
- Identify and troubleshoot complex issues autonomously while working toward broader strategic goals set by Architects on the team.
- Travel to San Antonio, TX on average 3-4 days every three months.
- Work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Columbia, MD office.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five plus (5+) years of experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field; or three (3) years of relevant experience with a Master’s in a related field; or a High School Diploma or equivalent and nine (9) years of relevant experience.
- Experience developing and deploying infrastructure in AWS.
- Experience with Kubernetes (or vendor flavor), including cluster administration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with container (Docker/Podman) build tooling and Kubernetes automation tools (e.g., Helm, Kustomize, Flux CD).
- Solid understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, and proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- U.S. citizenship required (clearance will be processed for the role).
- Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes as needed.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Current Secret or TS/SCI level security clearance.
- Five plus (5+) years of experience in Platform Engineering or Software Development (Python or Go) on a Posix-style (Linux or Mac OS) platform.
- Experience writing automation in CI/CD tooling (e.g., GitLab-CI, Travis-CI, Jenkins).
- Understanding of Agile software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab).
- Experience with Puppet, Ansible, Maven, or virtualization (oVirt, Proxmox, VMware).
- Prior experience or familiarity with DISA’s Big Data Platform or other Big Data systems (e.g., Cloudera CDH Hadoop, MapR Hadoop, Databricks, Apache Spark).

Pay
The expected salary range for this position is $150,000 - $265,000, depending on education and years of experience.
Schedule
- Hybrid work environment, averaging 1-2 days per week at the Columbia, MD office.
- Partial telework allowed.
- Travel to San Antonio, TX required on average 3-4 days every three months.
