Engineering Technician Supervisor
Role Summary
As our Engineering Technician Supervisor, you will lead a team of engineering technicians supporting mechanical and electrical assembly, NPI product builds, and prototype equipment setup. This is a highly hands-on leadership role—you'll assign work, unblock issues in real time, ensure builds meet schedule and quality standards, and track and approve timecards and labor hours for your team. You'll coordinate and deliver on-the-job training, helping technicians develop the craftsmanship and technical skills needed to build, test, and refine electro-mechanical systems safely, consistently, and efficiently. Your leadership will directly influence product readiness, prototype quality, and the pace at which new products move from development into production.
Responsibilities
- Directly supervise engineering technicians supporting mechanical and electrical assembly, NPI product builds, and prototype equipment setup, managing daily work assignments and floor coverage.
- Own day-to-day execution of technician work, ensuring schedules, quality, and safety standards are met while escalating issues and risks in real time.
- Track, review, and approve timecards, labor hours, and overtime for the technician team, supporting labor efficiency and project planning.
- Career on-the-job training for new and existing technicians, building proficiency in assembly, fabrication, troubleshooting, and test methods.
- Work hands-on alongside the team to support installation, wiring, and commissioning of manufacturing and pilot equipment.
- Partner with engineers on prototype iterations, test fixture development, and continuous improvement initiatives; support design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews and feedback loops.
- Assist in and oversee product and process validation activities, including execution of qualification protocols and data collection.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and protocols, especially when working with high-voltage or mechanical systems, proactively identifying and correcting hazards.
- Create a positive, accountable team culture through coaching, performance feedback, and corrective action, including addressing performance concerns and administering discipline when necessary.
- Maintain organization of development area and tool spaces.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 7+ years of experience in assembly, testing, or support of electro-mechanical equipment or NPI builds, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Proven experience leading day-to-day technician work in a fast-paced engineering or manufacturing environment, including work assignment and schedule execution.
- Experience managing labor and timekeeping, including tracking and approving timecards, overtime, and shift coverage.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, shear, breaker, hydraulic press, and manual fabrication techniques, such as soldering, crimping, and machining; machine shop experience is a plus.
- Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems, including the ability to troubleshoot and rework.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and interpreting technical drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to read and work from electromechanical diagrams or multi-discipline engineering documentation.
- Experience coordinating and delivering on-the-job training and coaching technicians through changing processes.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to provide clear direction, real-time feedback, and corrective action when required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand or bend for extended periods, and operate safely in an industrial lab setting.
- Commitment to safety and EHS best practices in an industrial lab or manufacturing environment.
Bonus Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a technical discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, manufacturing technology) or equivalent hands-on experience preferred.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for interpreting and working with complex CAD models.
- Strong foundation in electrical systems
- Prior experience in NPI builds, pilot lines, or early-stage product validation.
- Experience working in Agile development environments, including task management and sprint planning using Scrum methodologies and tools like Jira and Confluence
- Familiarity with PLC systems.
