Summary
The primary purpose of the Engineering Technician is to use computer aided software applications to plan and develop various products for projects in support of Facilities Management. The Engineering technician also updates and maintains various complex and diverse databases storing design files.
Qualifications
- To qualify for this position - applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement - 09/30/2026.
- Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
- For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09.
- Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
- Individual Occupational Requirements Series Definition: This series covers technical positions supervising - leading - or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction - application - properties - operations - and limitations of engineering systems - processes - structures - machinery - devices - and materials.
Specialized Experience
- You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-09 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
- Use of computer-aided design (CAD) software to prepare - update - and maintain architectural - engineering - and as-built drawings and documentation for existing buildings and building systems (such as architectural - structural - civil - HVAC - electrical - or plumbing) - including drawing review and coordination.
- Experience interpreting and creating detailed floor plans - sections - elevations - and system layouts for facilities (not component parts).
- Experience in updating and managing drawing databases and file structures for multi-discipline building projects.
- Familiarity with plan reading and working with various engineering and architectural teams to ensure as-built documentation accurately reflects field conditions and construction changes.
