About the Role

This position is for a Mechanical Engineer 4 within the Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineering team. Nuclear Quality Assurance Engineering is responsible for the Nuclear Quality Management System at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS). The team owns processes and procedures that govern critical aspects of Quality for the deckplate, inspection, and engineering, working collaboratively to drive improvements, eliminate waste, and streamline processes. Additionally, the team coordinates the NAVSEA 08 Evaluations bi-annually.

Researches, plans, designs, and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal hydraulic, or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Nuclear Certification Council and lead major council initiatives to mitigate identified risk to the Nuclear Certification Program.
  • Lead critical improvement initiatives that streamline workflows, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency for various Navy Nuclear Programs.
  • Spearhead or actively support the adoption of cutting-edge digital tools and technologies to advance Quality Assurance at NNS.
  • Develop and refine procedures to ensure every component, system, and test meets stringent regulations and exceeds expectations.
  • Work hand-in-hand with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless collaboration and adherence to Quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program (required).
  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience, or
    • Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience, or
    • Ph.D. and 4 years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Intimate understanding of the NAVSEA 0989-062-4000 Naval Nuclear Quality Assurance Manual (nice to have).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with diverse engineering and Quality professionals.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and innovation, staying ahead of the curve in nuclear technology and Quality practices.
  • Demonstrable understanding of nuclear project technology or testing at NNS (nice to have).
  • Proven track record in Quality Manufacturing or Nuclear Quality Assurance (nice to have).

Pay

Salary range: $124,000.00 to $153,000.00. The anticipated salary range represents the estimated base pay for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
