About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer at Lam, you're designing and defining cutting-edge mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. Your role involves feasibility studies, testing, and guiding teams in detailed design and fabrication. You provide the crucial design information needed to shape our technology's packaging. In this role, you will directly contribute to Lam Platform new product development.

Responsibilities

  • Support the full life cycle of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems from concept to productization including conceptualization, designing, CAD modeling, development, and test/validation.
  • Design components using a variety of metals, ceramics, quartz, plastics, and advanced coatings.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with SEMI, Lam standards, and industry best practices for geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Conduct detailed analysis including structural, finite element analysis (FEA), thermal, heat transfer, stress, vibrations, fluid and gas flow dynamics, and manufacturability to properly specify designs.
  • Develop and conduct feasibility studies and test plans to characterize and validate design performance.
  • Prepare high-quality reports and technical presentations to clearly communicate design intent, evaluation, and validation to a diverse audience in design reviews.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure solutions can be manufactured with high-quality, cost-optimized, and to requirements.
  • Provide key deliverables including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), technical specifications, risk analysis, test specifications, and design review presentations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to more junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 8+ years of experience; or Master’s degree with 6+ years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, and technical presentation skills.
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD tools such as CREO and Siemens NX.
  • Hands-on experimental and design background coupled with solid engineering skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Semiconductor industry is a plus.
  • Experience in leading projects or problem-solving while managing time and multiple priorities.

Pay

Salary range for this position in the California, San Francisco Bay Area: $104,000.00 - $231,000.00. Salary offers depend on factors including location, level, education, training, specific skills, and years of experience.

Schedule

Our hybrid roles combine on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. 'On-site Flex' requires working 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the option to work remotely the rest of the week. 'Virtual Flex' requires working 1-2 days per week on-site, with remote work for the remainder.
