About the role
Puget Sound Energy is seeking an Engineer II - Substation Controls to join their team. This role is part of the Engineering Operations team and is located in Snoqualmie, WA.
Responsibilities
- Designs controls systems for substations containing voltages of 12kV and above.
- Works on project teams to support the successful completion of projects designed to reinforce the energy delivery or power generation systems.
- Supports emergency response operations when needed, including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures.
- May coordinate the work of engineering assistants, technicians, or others who assist in specific assignments (including contractors/consultants).
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or other appropriate engineering field.
- Experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling.
- Organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills.
- Experience working with both internal and external customers on projects.
- Familiarity with codes and equipment utilized in the design and operation of utility systems.
- Experience with coordinating external consultants in the execution of a project.
- Possession of EIT certificate and ability to acquire PE license.
- Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices.
- MicroStation or AutoCAD experience.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or other appropriate engineering field.
- Experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically achieved after three (3) or more years practice as a degreed engineer).
Skills
- Ability to interpret requirements and application of company and industry standards, guidelines, and methods.
- Ability to apply engineering principles, practices, and theories.
- Ability to create and review cost estimates, and provide economic analysis for project alternatives.
- Ability to plan and develop project budgets with appropriate documentation.
- Ability to identify potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiate corrective action.
- Ability to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design requirements.
- Ability to support emergency response work as requested.

Pay and Schedule
The pay range for this position is $82,000.00 - $136,300.00, and this position is eligible for annual goals based incentive bonuses.
Schedule
This role is considered "safety sensitive" as defined in RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre-employment drug screening that includes screening for the presence of marijuana and marijuana metabolites.
