About the role

We are seeking a Substation Protection & Controls Engineer to join our team in our Pittsburgh, PA office. This role offers the opportunity to design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at voltages from 12kV up to 500kV. The position is part of a hybrid schedule, with 2-4 days a week in the Pittsburgh, PA office.

Responsibilities

  • Design substation protection and control projects for electric utilities at various voltage levels.
  • Use knowledge of digital logic design, AC and DC circuits to design substation electrical projects.
  • Prepare one-line, three-line AC schematic designs, DC protection schematic designs, and panel layout and wiring designs.
  • Create bill of materials based on design criteria.
  • Perform quality control checks on wiring designs.
  • Support project lifecycle from scoping to final design and implementation.
  • Provide construction support.
  • Ensure compliance with minimum requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code and client standards.
  • Collaborate with a variety of utility clients nationwide.
  • Work with different types of projects ranging from distribution to transmission level voltages.
  • Engage in electrical power calculations and interactions with other disciplines (substation, telecom, civil structural, etc.).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or related degree with 2+ years of Substation protection control design and/or field testing/commissioning experience.
  • Experience in executing substation protection and control projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with clients and internal team members.
  • Ability to read and design substation protection and control drawings.
  • Strong analytical skills and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Detail-oriented and computer competent.
  • Willingness to travel to project/client sites.

Pay

$69,550.00 - $125,725.00

Schedule

Hybrid Schedule: 2-4 days a week in the Pittsburgh, PA office.
