About the role

The Energy Solutions Manager is responsible for overseeing the strategic and daily operations and performance of the Energy Solutions Department within our distribution electric cooperative. Reporting to the Director of Key Accounts, Energy Solutions & Program Development, this role provides leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to ensure efficient management of the Energy Solutions Department, including energy efficiency programs, member and community engagement initiatives, investigation of high energy usage cases, and other innovative energy services. The position contributes to the strategic planning and vision of the department while collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Energy Solutions Department, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, technical guidance, coaching, support, and performance feedback.
  • Manage assigned supervisors and employees to ensure effective operations, consistent service delivery, accountability, and achievement of departmental goals.
  • Establish annual departmental goals and objectives aligned with the cooperative’s strategic plan.
  • Develop and execute strategies for improving existing programs and expanding energy solutions that create measurable member and organizational value.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor departmental budgets and ensure responsible management of financial and operational resources.
  • Evaluate departmental operations, financial performance, workload, service quality, and employee performance and implement improvements as necessary.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve departmental policies, procedures, processes, standards, and documentation.
  • Establish performance expectations and key performance indicators for departmental programs and services.
  • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment that promotes employee engagement, accountability, innovation, professional development, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead recruitment efforts, employee selection, onboarding, training, succession planning, and professional development activities.
  • Prepare departmental reports, presentations, performance summaries, forecasts, and recommendations for leadership.
  • Evaluate emerging energy technologies and recommend programs that benefit cooperative members.
  • Monitor program performance, participation, and ROI.
  • Oversee the investigation and resolution of high energy usage, abnormal consumption, and complex member energy concerns.
  • Ensure employees use appropriate energy consumption data, interval usage information, AMI data, weather information, equipment characteristics, member history, and field observations when conducting investigations.
  • Establish consistent procedures and service standards for high energy usage investigations.
  • Oversee residential and commercial energy audits and assessments designed to identify opportunities for improved energy efficiency and member understanding.

Requirements

Education

  • Minimum: Four-year bachelor’s degree in business energy management or related technical field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in energy management.
  • Job-related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience

  • Minimum: Seven years of work and leadership experience in the energy industry, with a focus on field energy services, energy efficiency, member-focused programs, metering, or related fields.
  • Preferred: Experience within an electric utility or related industry.
  • Preferred: Experience within an electric cooperative, electric utility, or closely related industry.
  • Preferred: Experience with solar and distributed energy resource interconnection processes.
  • Preferred: Experience with PowerClerk or similar interconnection management software.
  • Preferred: Experience with NISC iVUE, SmartHub, Connect, Marketing, or similar utility information systems.

Skills

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory, residential and commercial energy assessments, metering technologies (including Advanced Metering Infrastructure), HVAC systems, thermography, renewable energy systems, surge protection, and energy usage investigations.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, building envelope performance, water heating, appliances, electrical equipment, thermography, renewable energy systems, distributed generation, and emerging energy technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of energy audits, high energy usage investigations, interval usage analysis, and methods for identifying factors contributing to abnormal or elevated energy consumption.
  • Knowledge of solar photovoltaic systems, distributed energy resources, Solar Interconnection Agreements, applicable interconnection requirements, and net metering or distributed generation tariffs.
  • Knowledge of Surge Protection, GenerLink, and related member energy products and services.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, programs, products, and services based on member benefit, operational impact, financial considerations, risk, and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to interpret energy usage data, operational metrics, program participation, financial results, and key performance indicators to support sound business decisions.
  • Proficiency with personal computers, operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and applicable corporate software.
  • Intermediate or greater proficiency in Excel for aggregating and analyzing operational and program data, identifying trends, and supporting decision-making.
  • Advanced ability to use Word and PowerPoint to prepare professional documentation, reports, educational materials, and audience-appropriate presentations.
  • Ability to learn and effectively apply new systems, technologies, and software.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including a personal computer, printers, copy machines, and telephones.
  • Ability to work irregular hours for assignment completion and flexibility to change scheduling and report to work on short notice during emergency situations.
  • A valid Florida driver’s license for regular driving privileges of a company vehicle; must have and maintain an acceptable driving record as determined by SECO Energy.
  • Normal work hours will be eight hours Monday through Friday, between 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Business travel between offices and travel may be required for training and development.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen.
