We are seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to join our dynamic legal team. This role can be either part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate's preference. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on a broad range of employee benefits matters including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, executive compensation, and other employee benefit matters. This position also requires deep understanding of compliance with federal and state regulations, drafting plan documents, and summary plan descriptions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and guidance on all aspects of employee benefits law, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, executive compensation, and other employee benefit matters.
  • Draft, review, and revise plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and other related documents.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations related to employee benefits.
  • Represent clients in regulatory matters and interactions with the IRS and Department of Labor.
  • Provide legal support for corporate transactions, including due diligence, integration, and compliance reviews.
  • Stay updated on current trends, practices, and legislation in employee benefits law.
  • Collaborate with other legal team members and stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive approach to client service.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school is required.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in employee benefits law.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in pension, retirement plans, health benefits, welfare benefits, and executive compensation.
  • Proficiency in drafting plan documents and summary plan descriptions.
  • Demonstrated experience in compliance with federal and state regulations related to employee benefits.
  • Proven track record of representing clients in regulatory matters and interactions with the IRS and Department of Labor.
  • Experience providing legal support for corporate transactions, including due diligence, integration, and compliance reviews.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to manage multiple projects, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be a member in good standing of a state bar.

This position offers the opportunity to work with a collaborative team while managing a diverse portfolio of clients. Our firm is committed to expanding its ERISA and employee benefits practice, and we plan to add 1-3 additional attorneys in this area over the next one to two years.
