About the Role

You’ll deliver exceptional, real-time emergency care for sick and injured pets when they and their families need it most. In this fast-paced environment, you’ll strengthen your triage and critical assessment skills while being supported by a collaborative team. You’ll assess and diagnose patients, develop and oversee treatment plans, and partner closely with technicians to ensure high-quality execution of care. Your work will include performing surgeries, delivering critical care, and maintaining an exceptional standard of service for every patient who enters our emergency department.

About Heart of Texas

Heart of Texas is an AAHA-accredited, Fear Free Certified, full-service, 24/7 hospital serving the Round Rock, Austin, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Hutto, Cedar Park, and surrounding areas. We provide specialty care in Emergency, Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Oncology (Medical), and partner with an on-site Cardiologist two days a week. Our hospital is fully equipped with a full range of diagnostic and treatment equipment, including:

  • Commercial-grade lab diagnostics
  • ECG, blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry
  • Anesthesia & telemetry
  • Ultrasound (with a sonographer and radiologist review available Monday-Saturday)
  • CT, fluoroscopy, digital radiography
  • Rhinoscopy, endoscopy, bronchoscopy, and cystoscopy

We have a core of dedicated specialists in internal medicine, surgery, medical oncology, and a contracted cardiologist, along with a supportive relief pool to assist with ER staffing and coverage. Our experienced Medical Director and Manager prioritize open communication and DVM wellness.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM / VMD) or equivalent degree
  • Active State Veterinary Board License in good standing for Texas (obtained prior to start date)
  • Active DEA license or DEA licensure eligibility
  • Experience in emergency medicine or completion of small animal rotating or emergency internships is highly recommended

Compensation

Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience, with an annual PROSAL full-time range starting at $180K/year. The actual salary offered will consider a wide range of factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
