Emergency Veterinarian

About the Role

The Senior Veterinarian in Emergency and Critical Care (ER) will play a paramount and integral role in the Emergency and Critical Care Department at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), one of the nation’s largest facilities for animal care, research, and education. The state-of-the-art hospital operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, with 55,000 patient visits annually.

The ECC Department includes ten board-certified specialists in ECC, seven internship-trained emergency doctors, nine residents, 35 licensed technicians (several with their VTS in ECC), and 22 assistants. The ER is centrally located, open 24/7, and handles nearly 20,000 visits per year. AMC is the only VETCOT-certified, Level One trauma center in the region.

Clinical responsibilities include primary case receiving, oversight of interns and ECC residents, and monitoring of all pets hospitalized in the ICU during overnight rotations. The schedule varies among daytime, swing, and overnight shifts, working alongside 1-3 senior ER doctors and/or criticalists and 4-6 rotating interns. Senior ER doctors share responsibilities with boarded criticalists and senior ECC residents.

This role is demanding but rewarding, offering opportunities for growth. Key traits include efficiency, diplomacy, patience, confidence, and a passion for teaching and continuous learning. Participation in internal and external continuing education is encouraged.

Responsibilities

Pay

Pay Range: $195,000 USD - $215,000 USD
