Full-Time opportunity in Gilbert, Arizona. Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week, overnight only.

About Arizona Veterinary Emergency & Critical Care Center – Gilbert (AVECCC)

At AVECCC you’ll practice advanced emergency and critical care medicine in a 22,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art hospital supported by an exceptional team of emergency doctors, specialists, technicians, and critical care professionals. Our Gilbert hospital is the hub of established internship and Emergency & Critical Care residency programs, fostering daily education, collaboration, and professional growth. Weekly intern lectures, resident rounds, on-site CE, and in-depth cage-side rounds provide ongoing learning opportunities. You’ll have 24/7 consultation support from board-certified Critical Care specialists, either in person or by phone, with daily DACVECC coverage and multiple doctors on shift. The team also includes an on-site social worker and a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) who leads staff training and development.

Advanced Medicine & Technology

  • ICU long-term ventilator (Servo-u)
  • Anesthesia ventilator
  • High-flow oxygen unit
  • PrismaFlex units for extracorporeal therapies, including CRRT and TPE
  • Electronic treatment sheets through SmartFlow
  • Web-based electronic medical records through ezyVet with off-site accessibility
  • On-site CT and ultrasonography
  • Collaboration with specialists in Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Radiology, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Dentistry, Dermatology, and Ophthalmology
  • Strong collaboration with nearby Neurology specialists

Located approximately 30 minutes southeast of downtown Phoenix, Gilbert combines the amenities of the Phoenix metropolitan area with a vibrant, family-friendly community. In Your Day-to-day, You Will

  • Deliver high-quality emergency and critical care to a diverse caseload of companion animals.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical conditions.
  • Provide comprehensive emergency care through a balanced mix of receiving new emergency cases, triaging incoming patients, and managing hospitalized patients throughout their course of treatment.
  • Perform emergency procedures and stabilize critically ill or injured patients using evidence-based medicine.
  • Collaborate closely with Emergency Veterinarians, Critical Care specialists, specialty teams, technicians, assistants, and doctor assistants to provide seamless patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Participate in a culture centered on collaboration, mentorship, education, and continuous learning.

What You Bring

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Arizona veterinary licensure.
  • Completion of a rotating internship OR at least three years of emergency medicine experience.
  • Willingness to work an overnight-only schedule.
  • Confidence managing emergency and critical cases and making sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, and advancing emergency veterinary medicine.
