About the role
The Purdue University Police Department seeks an Emergency Services Dispatcher to assist with dispatching police, fire, EMS, and university services. Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and prioritizing requests and disseminating information efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve, process, and enter sensitive information from multiple electronic sources
- Activate Purdue University emergency alert notifications
- Serve as a backup emergency services activator for other agencies
- Perform multiple tasks simultaneously, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
- Communicate effectively with phone calls, coworkers, and the public
- Work in a fast-paced environment, handling several job responsibilities at once
- Work independently and in a team environment
- Work a flexible schedule
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED
- 0-2 years of emergency dispatcher experience
- Demonstrated consistent use of good judgment
- Confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Professional demeanor and ability to exercise tact and diplomacy
- Excellent listening and comprehension skills
- Assertiveness when needed
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to obtain and hold certifications in IDACS, NCIC, CJIS, and EMD
- Cognitive map reading ability and proficiency with Windows-based operations
- Able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally
Qualifications
- Prior knowledge of Police CAD and RMS systems (Nice to Have)
