Job Details
Assume responsibility and accountability for providing basic and/or advanced emergency care in out-of-hospital settings, including the evaluation, treatment, and transport of injured and/or ill adult, pediatric, and newborn patients. In the hospital setting, assist Registered Nurses, Paramedics, and Advanced Providers in providing care from neonates to geriatrics. Under the direction of Registered Nurses and/or Providers, perform tasks and procedures not specifically prohibited by nursing policies or State of Iowa EMS Advanced Care Law/Administrative Rules, applicable to EMTs and Paramedics.
Provide care to patients using therapeutic use of self, the environment/instrumentation, and other healthcare team members. Serve as a patient advocate and a liaison between ancillary departments, physicians, and community resources. The Paramedic is responsible for directing personnel as needed.
Shift and Compensation
The shift will be 12 hours, either 7p-7a or 7a-7p. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- EMT/A-EMT:
- Possess a current certification to practice as an Advanced EMT issued by the State of Iowa. Successful Completion of an approved A-EMT Program
- Possess a current certification to practice as an EMT issued by the State of Iowa. Successful Completion of an approved EMT Program
- Possession of current State of Iowa driver’s license
- Acceptable driving record
- BLS certification prior to the end of orientation and/or working independently
- Mandatory dependent adult & child abuse education certification
- MOAB/De-escalation training within the first six months of hire when available
- Certification in PHTLS or BTLS preferred
- Hospital-based ambulance service experience preferred
- Must maintain driving record acceptable to hospitals' insurance carrier
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills: Works closely with patients, families, peers, supervisors, physicians, and other health team members
- Strong communication skills with and on behalf of patients, and with other staff members
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document
- This position requires successful completion of a Physical Capacity Profile screening
- Paramedic:
- Possess a current certification as a Paramedic issued by the State of Iowa. Successful Completion of an accredited Paramedic Program
- Possession of current State of Iowa driver’s license
- Acceptable driving record
- BLS certification prior to the end of orientation and/or working independently
- ACLS & PALS certification within 6 months and prior to working independently
- Mandatory dependent adult & child abuse education certification
- MOAB/De-escalation training within the first six months of hire when available
- Knowledge of basic arrhythmia and 12-Lead interpretation
- Certification in PHTLS or BTLS preferred
- Hospital-based ambulance service experience preferred
- Must maintain driving record acceptable to hospitals' insurance carrier
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills: Works closely with patients, families, peers, supervisors, physicians, and other health team members
- Strong communication skills with and on behalf of patients, and with other staff members
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the Job Requirements document
