Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or AEMT - PRN
About the role
Careers With Purpose Sanford Health seeks qualified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our team. This role can be in an ambulance setting or a hospital-based setting, assisting with patient/resident care services.
Responsibilities
- Drive mobile intensive care units to specified locations following instructions from emergency medical dispatchers.
- Respond to emergency calls, administer first aid, and provide life support care to sick or injured persons in pre-hospital settings.
- Obtain patients'/residents' medical history and vital statistics, assess their condition, and prioritize treatment procedures during transportation.
- Utilize necessary medical equipment to treat patients/residents and ensure they are stabilized before transportation.
- Communicate with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information, arrange transfers, report patient/resident information, or receive instructions for further treatment.
- Ensure the ambulance is clean and properly maintained after each call, restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
- In a hospital setting, assist in performing patient/resident care services and support activities, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Prepare and position stable patients/residents during transport, ensuring safety and comfort.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Training Program required for licensing.
- A thorough knowledge of emergency medical technician (EMT) principles, practices, and techniques.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
- Depending on state requirements, a state license may be required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment/supplies, and ability to maintain and restock treatment areas.
- Ability to safely assist with the transfer of patients/residents to and from procedural areas, including Radiology.
- Knowledge and ability to perform high-quality basic life support (BLS) and use a LUCAS device.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid Driver's License and a good driving record.
- Must be 18 years or older, with approval needed for those under 21 to drive.
- May not be required for those in a Hospital setting.
Skills
Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. The ability to work with growth and development needs of a diverse population is essential.
