About the role

Careers With Purpose Sanford Health seeks qualified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our team. This position can be either in an ambulance setting or a hospital-based setting, depending on the department.

Responsibilities

  • Drive mobile intensive care units to specified locations following instructions from emergency medical dispatchers.
  • Respond to emergency calls and provide first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured patients in pre-hospital settings.
  • Absorb and assess the nature and extent of illnesses or injuries to prioritize patients for emergency needs and treatment procedures during transportation.
  • Utilize necessary medical equipment to treat patients and ascertain the extent of their injuries or illnesses.
  • Communicate with dispatchers or treatment center personnel to provide information, arrange transfers, report patient information to medical staff, or receive further instructions.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the ambulance after each call, restocking and replacing used supplies, cleaning equipment, and ensuring the ambulance is ready for the next run.
  • In a hospital setting, assist in patient/resident care services and support activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Perform patient/resident care services and support activities, including assisting with transfers to and from procedural areas.
  • Prepare and position stable patients/residents during transport.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited Training Program required for licensing.
  • Thorough knowledge of emergency medical technician (EMT) principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Depending on location, national registry status as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or (AEMT) level may be required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical equipment/supplies.
  • Ability to safely assist with the transfer of patients/residents to and from procedural areas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients/residents, and patient/resident families.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform high-quality basic life support (BLS) and apply a LUCAS device.

Qualifications

  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Must be 18 years or older, approval needed for those under 21 to drive.
  • May not be required for those in a Hospital setting.

Skills

Physical activities include considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
