Emergency Department Unit Coordinator Evening Part Time

About the role

The Unit Coordinator/Secretary at South Shore Health's Emergency Department coordinates nursing staff, patients, physicians, and other hospital departments, facilitating efficient unit operations. This role also includes general receptionist duties and interacting with patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates professional courtesy and acts as a resource person to nursing staff, clinicians, and support services.
• Interacts with patients and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, showing empathy, sensitivity, and patience.
• Utilizes technological solutions and accesses Lotus Notes for various resources.
• Orders necessary supplies and manages inventory with the Operations Supervisor.
• Ensures accurate discharge documentation and paperwork.
• Completes daily chart audits and shift-to-shift reports.
• Performs unit workflow tasks, including printing and reviewing reports.
• Collaborates with the Operations Supervisor to maintain supply levels and order from external vendors.
• Fosters a culture of safety and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Communicates effectively and utilizes the chain of command to address issues.
• Participates in patient family-centered care, respecting individual values and preferences.
• Works flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred basic computer skills.
• Basic medical terminology knowledge is beneficial.
• Effective communication and documentation abilities.
