Responsibilities
- Communicates with nursing staff, other clinicians, and support services.
- Interacts with patients and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, and patience.
- Utilizes technological solutions to work processes and practices, including accessing Lotus Notes for email, learning management, and other resources.
- Orders necessary supplies from Stores and other departments as needed or requested, collaborating with the Operations Supervisor to maintain and change par levels and order from outside vendors.
- Prints, reviews, and inquires about unit reports as needed, files reports in the patient's chart, completes daily chart audits, and completes shift to shift reports.
- Ensures discharge disposition is entered accurately and in a timely manner, faxing necessary discharge paperwork and medication reconciliation to appropriate providers.
- Collaborates with the Operations Supervisor to manage supplies and equipment, maintaining and changing par levels, and ordering from outside vendors.
- Fosters a "Culture of Safety" by ensuring the unit environment meets regulatory requirements, adhering to CDC hand hygiene guidelines, and complying with universal precautions and personal protective equipment.
- Functions as a preceptor for new employees, demonstrating dependability and flexibility in meeting scheduling needs, and utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Communicates appropriately and effectively using the chain of command, and is accountable for staying informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
- Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards, complying with applicable policies and procedures, and safeguarding patient information.
- Welcomes the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences, regardless of rounds, change of shift, or other events on the unit.
- Considers the individual needs of each person with whom they interact, possessing age and cultural knowledge and awareness, and effectively utilizing resources to provide care/services.
