Unit Care Associate - Part-Time Evenings (Emergency Department)

About the role

Performs delegated functions as a member of the Emergency Department to provide the following services:

  • STAT requests for specimens and patients
  • Discharge patients to designated areas
  • Transport of patients as needed to dedicated areas
  • Utilizes the hospital-wide computer system (EMR) for order entry, admission, transfer, and discharge functions
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living and provides basic care to acutely ill patients
  • Assists in the maintenance of a safe and clean environment
  • Performs EKGs and venipuncture
  • Conducts POCT (Point-of-Care Testing) and direct continuous/close observations of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse
  • Ensures patients are dressed into hospital attire, clothing and valuables are logged according to policy
  • Places patients on CM, NIBP, SPO₂ as needed
  • Scans items into the EMR in a timely manner
  • Updates Sorian in a timely manner
  • Answers phones professionally and promptly

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions
  • Prior Patient Care Associate (PCA) experience is required
  • Active PCA certification is preferred
  • Current EKG and Phlebotomy certifications are required
  • CPR certification must be obtained within the probationary period and maintained throughout employment
  • Candidates without an active PCA certification must successfully complete one of the following prior to the end of the probationary period:
    • UAP Program
    • CNA Program
    • EMT Program
    • Current enrollment in a Nursing program with successful completion of Nursing Fundamentals
  • Bilingual skills are preferred

Pay

St. Joseph’s Health provides a salary range to comply with New Jersey Law. The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, and skills. The salary range does not include incentives, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
