About the Role

This position involves leadership and management within the emergency department, focusing on patient care coordination, staff supervision, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates assessment and reassessment documentation of emergency department patients and proper communication of findings to allied healthcare members.
  • Coordinates patient flow through the emergency department and maintains appropriate staffing levels.
  • Assures performance expectations are communicated to associates and monitors adherence to these expectations.
  • Provides timely performance feedback and participates in interviewing and selection of unit associates.
  • Manages staffing, scheduling, attendance, and tardy occurrences.
  • Bases care and decisions on the Nursing Process (Assessment, Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation).
  • Assists with formalizing departmental goals, performance improvement, and project management.
  • Manages corrective actions and participates in budget planning and adherence.
  • Demonstrates competence in caring for patients and supervises nursing care.
  • Collaborates with healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Ensures nursing care aligns with licensure, accreditation, and organizational policies.
  • Assures availability of necessary resources for the unit.
  • Plans orientation for new associates and coordinates unit-based education activities.
  • Leads unit-based council committees and ensures continual survey preparedness.
  • Monitors and analyzes data related to patient outcomes and nursing performance, recommending improvements.
  • Works collaboratively to maximize resource efficiency and allocates work assignments effectively.
  • Analyzes non-productive time and recommends operational improvements.
  • Ensures accurate, timely communication of patient status among healthcare team members.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with other departments and assists in conflict resolution.
  • Identifies and reports safety risks, ensuring compliance with OSHA, infection control, and hospital policies.
  • Assures equipment functionality and prompt action for repairs or replacements.
  • Conducts interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues in alignment with the hospital’s mission and values.
  • Monitors and analyzes patient satisfaction, recommending improvements as needed.
  • Acts as a role model in patient advocacy and effective conflict resolution.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure.
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification.
  • CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) preferred.
  • Five years of emergency nursing experience.
  • Prior nursing management experience preferred.
