About the Role

Under direct supervision, the incumbent conducts standardized language acquisition assessments for listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with students. They also provide assistance to teachers in a classroom environment by distributing materials, working with students individually or in groups, and supporting lesson planning.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts standardized English language proficiency assessments for reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • Reads assessment prompts and records student verbal responses.
  • Pre-scores and records proficiency tests using scoring rubrics.
  • Maintains a testing log and records data on assessment administration and scoring.
  • Submits pre-score reports and test booklets to certified staff for review.
  • Works with students on special projects or assignments, including reading, mathematics, language development, and emergency information memorization.
  • Demonstrates skills and techniques to aid in student learning.
  • Coordinates testing schedules and materials with the Program Instructional Coach.
  • Prepares rooms for testing and performs cleanup afterward.
  • Assists teachers in planning and coordinating lesson plans by sharing ideas and providing student feedback.
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal laws for English Learners, including file audits, testing, and small groups.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Proficient fluency in the English language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience working with children.
  • Valid first aid certification.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Understanding of child development theories.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts.
  • Familiarity with typical classroom activities.
  • Experience working with children.
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate techniques and procedures.
  • Skill in facilitating group activities in a learning environment.
  • Proficiency in reviewing completed work assignments.
  • Capability to prepare classrooms for various activities.
  • Ability to read and follow lesson plans.
  • Knowledge of applying scoring procedures.
  • Understanding of school rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with supervisors, staff, and students.

Physical Requirements

The employee must regularly talk or hear, frequently stand, walk, sit, and use hands. They must occasionally reach with hands and arms and frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary: $16 to $19.20 Per Hour
Location: Mountain View - Phoenix, Arizona
